South Luffenham Parish Council is the first tier of local government for the village and represents the interests of the local community.
The Council has seven councillor seats and currently has five serving councillors, meaning there are two vacancies.
Parish councils have a range of responsibilities and powers that allow them to provide and maintain local facilities, manage community assets and undertake projects for the benefit of their area. They also represent the views of residents and are consulted on matters affecting the parish, including local planning applications.
In South Luffenham, the Parish Council is responsible for the management and maintenance of a number of important village facilities and assets, including:
The Council also manages its finances and annual budget, considers planning applications and consultations, works with Rutland County Council and other organisations, and considers projects and improvements for the village.
Decisions are made collectively by the Council at its public meetings and recorded in the meeting minutes. The Council’s financial management is governed by its adopted Financial Regulations and other statutory requirements.
The Parish Council meets every other month at South Luffenham Village Hall.
Council meetings are open to the public and include an opportunity for residents to raise matters with the Council.

Parish councillors are local residents who volunteer their time to help make decisions about the village and represent the interests of the community.
